Host of the 2005 Canadian Amateurs, Bell Bay has been the home for many high profile golfing events, including; The 2001 Wayne Gretzky and Friends Invitational; The 2000 Canadian Club Champions Championship; 2001 Nova Scotia Junior Championship; and the 1998 and 1999 Canadian Tour Event known as The Bell Bay Matches.
In 1998, Bell Bay was rated the Best New Canadian Golf Course by Golf Digest.
The course routing takes full advantage of the area's natural features, and each hole boasts a distinctive element that makes it both unique and memorable. Bell Bay is renowned for its final four holes, among the best finishing sequences anywhere. A strong candidate for the signature hole is the seventeenth par 3, Banshee. The drastic changes in elevation, and a green that is set in a pocket of trees, presents an illusion to the golfer's normal perception of distance, and it's easy to underhit.
Breadalbane is one of golf's most scenic tee shots: The sweeping panorama of the Bras d'Or Lakes and Alexander Graham Bell's summer estate is breathtaking. Starting with a tee shot over a great gorge, the hole winds its way to the clubhouse, silouetted by the Highlands.
Overall playability of the course is enhanced by bent grass greens, and the tees and fairways are exceptionally manicured. There are four distinct teeing areas, positioned to offer a challenge for players of all skill levels. Bell Bay is a member of Cape Breton's Fabulous Foursome, which also includes the Highland Links, Dundee and Le Portage.
